This October local residents are being asked to light porches in pink. Local residents can light up their homes just like the Sydney Opera House, the Story Bridge and other Australian landmarks as a part of the National Breast Cancer Funds pink illuminations.

Pink light bulbs are on sale at our offices for $2.00 and residents are being encouraged to show their support for breast cancer research right throughout October.

Each year more than 11,500 women in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer and there are 2,500 deaths. One in 11 women is at risk of developing breast cancer by the age of 75. This is a disease that affects our whole community – our mothers, our daughters, our sisters and wives.

Survival rates are improving thanks to the efforts of fundraisers like the David Teasdale Real Estate, which are funding research that has resulted in better detection and improved treatments. Over the past decade, the five-year survival rate has improved by 10 per cent due to the inroads made by breast cancer research.

Home Access - Department of Housing

The Home Access Information Program identifies access features that can make it easier for people to enter and live in a home. Marketing these features and by providing information about particular access features may assist Buyers in their property search.

Buyers can be better informed about the homes they wish to inspect, potentially saving them time and energy when home access features are advertised. Sellers will benefit from attracting a great number of Buyers and enhanced promotion of property features.

When a home is promoted as having ‘access features’ it means the listing agent has used a checklist to identify whether the home has the following access features:

At least one entry into the home with no more than three steps. Alternatively, there may even be a ramp, elevator or lift allowing entry into the home.

From this entry, the kitchen, living room and at least one bedroom, bathroom and toilet will all be on the same level and you will not need to use internal steps or stairs to enter or move between these rooms.

Information on door widths, bathrooms and other property access features may also be available. The listing agent may also have photographs that highlight each of these areas of the home.

So look for the Home Access symbol.

Young tenants; Can we really expect tenants just to be great without taking the time to educate them about their responsibilities? What role does the industry play in providing tenants with the right start towards independent living? Do we sit back and wait for something to go wrong or educate now?

Professionals David Teasdale Real Estate is embarking on an inspirational mission to provide direct education and industry support to ensure a sound transitional process to independent living for young people. Tackling this challenge head-on in colation with Integrated Family and Youth Services (IFYS) a not for profit community based organisation

Our involvement will consist of the formation of and funding of a number of education seminars delivering a nationally recognised training program ‘Out of your own: A guide for young people in rental and share housing’.

This could quite possibly be a first for the industry. A real estate agency taking up the challenge to help young people into a stable tenancy assisting to provide them with the knowledge to keep them in harmony with agents and property owners and to meet their responsibilities under a lease. There are many at risk young people who are simply lacking the understanding and skills as to what it takes to be a tenant.

This effort comes out of an acknowledgement that not all young tenants are bad. Not all young tenants are going to trash a property and throw wild parties. There is a genuine need for many at risk young people to be given a fair go by the industry when it comes to applying for rental accommodation. With vacancy rates at an all time low and rents on the increase young tenants need to make every effort to gain and maintain a place to live.

It is our hope that by providing young people with a tangible certificate as to having attended one of our sponsored educational seminars that this maybe the key to them finding a stable tenancy arrangement.
